*IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 *

Gems for Gems is thrilled to bring you this group of INCREDIBLE registered counsellors who are EACH offering 3 PRO BONO sessions to anyone struggling during this time specifically experiencing Domestic Abuse.

Gems for Gems has chosen to operate under the banner of Domestic ABUSE instead of Domestic VIOLENCE due to confusion around determining what qualifies as ‘violence’ and therefore, what qualifies for help.

Gems for Gems, and these psychologists, are here for ANYONE experiencing ANY form of Domestic Abuse.

This includes any physical and nonphysical abuse i.e. violence, emotional, financial etc.

Each psychologist is very experienced and compassionate. Two of them have worked with Gems for Gems in the past and we have personally experienced their expertise.

Cristina Kalas and Nicole Bullock, we are so grateful for your eagerness to help and for your role in making this possible. Thank you so very much.

The contact information for each psychologist is in the comment section under each photo. Please do not be shy. These incredible professionals have seen a lot and have come to us with open hearts and enormous knowledge.

Reach Out.

Help is Here.

J. May Kanippayoor, M.A. Psychology, Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Candidate

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. As a clinical researcher and practitioner, I rely on the latest mental health science to better understand the different ways that our experiences interact with our genes to influence our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. I have been privileged to work with people from all walks of life, struggling with all manners of mental affliction – from challenges with work-life balance, daily goal-setting and problem-solving, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, self-harm, and even psychosis.

Each of us possess an inner wisdom that reflects our authentic self or who we really are. Often times this self is silenced by our harsh inner critic and overshadowed by perceived expectations about who we “should be” or how we “should act.” Let’s work together to separate fact from fiction and reconnect you with your true and authentic self!

Cristina Kalas

As the founder of Intrinsic Psychology, I strive to help clients realize their value and their purpose. Identifying who we are, learning to trust our intrinsic self, and developing the courage to stand in our truth, I believe, are all at the core of living an authentically fulfilling life. No matter what concern, struggle, or trauma an individual is experiencing, or has experiences, we all long to be seen, heard, and understood exactly as we are. Counsellors at Intrinsic Psychology focus on helping individuals remove anything that lies in the way of their greatness and in identifying and nurturing who they have been all along.

At Intrinsic Psychology, our counsellors provide support in, and have experience related to, a wide variety of areas including: self-esteem, self-awareness, anxiety, depression, mindfulness, meditation, stress reduction, identity, LGBTQ, couples/marriage, life transitions, family, parenting, communication, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties.

Kelly Kay

Kelly is a life coach, a compassionate ear and experienced in her discipline. She approaches healing by listening to the individual’s needs and finding the most beneficial route forward to not only survive but thrive.

“Anxiety is so high right now and I want to help people to find their inner guidance and wisdom

I have been in those high anxiety spaces and want to offer some calm in the eye of the storm.

I meet each client where they are in the moment. I listen and use the power of query to find out where they are. We then go where they need to go. I acknowledge their fears and find out what life would be like without that fear (focusing on what we can control vs what is out of our control).

If there is trauma present, we focus in where that trauma sits in the body and how we can acknowledge and release that trauma.”
