The Reason…

Well… here we go!
The inaugural first post.

I’d be lying if I said I felt no pressure to make this riveting or somehow profound — but alas, I’m not capable of conjuring that on command without the appropriate motivation. Usually, that means some massive recent injustice or being 15 minutes deep into one of my own speeches about my why for Gems.

So instead, I’ll start with the reason I created this blog in the first place:
To share the behind-the-scenes of our charity — our mission, our team, our initiatives — and what running a charity (especially a grassroots one) actually looks like.

Why?
Because it’s hard — and doable.

We live in a world filled with anger, division, and hate — and expressing those things publicly is becoming more and more normalized. I want to do the opposite. I want to empower the opposite.

I want to be part of showing people that if you have a dream to create something good in the world — you can, and you should. If you want to speak up, speak up about what’s possible: about peace, about love, about hope, and about the future we all want to exist in.

I’ll leave you with this quote for today:

“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”
Mother Teresa

Let’s bring the light.
