Adrianna Nieuwdorp

Alberta Community Ambassador

Adrianna graduated with a BA of Psychology from Laurentian University in 2007 and made the decision to move to Calgary in March 2008 for a fresh start. Soon after arriving in Calgary, Adrianna started working full time at Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dancehall moved into a full time management position. Realizing there was something still missing from her career path, she decided to explore other options. She always had a strong passion for organization, budgeting and balancing the books. While still continuing part time with the Ranchman’s, Adrianna began working as an entry level accounting clerk with Crew Energy Inc. in January 2012. Her hard work and determination showed her supervisors she was ready to move further into the accounting world. She was then promoted to a Treasury Accountant and is currently working on courses to complete her CPA. Adrianna is also a Scentsy Consultant which she began selling mainly to fuel her own addiction (www.msnieuw.scentsy.ca) In her down time, she enjoys yoga, spending quality time with her partner, family, friends and all of her animals.

“I am quite honored to be a ‘Gem’ and look forward to working together with so many amazing women. It’s not every day you meet an entire group of women trying to build each other and other women up. This group reminds me of a quote ‘she builds others up, because she knows what it’s like to be torn down’ and that really hit home for me. Knowing every day, everyone has a different struggle- some harder than others and instead of knocking others down, it’s time to stand up and rebuild. Thank you for letting me share this amazing experience with you.”

“I am honored and inspired to have been asked to join Gem for Gems. I moved to Calgary from Montreal looking for change, stability and opportunity. What I found was so much more; a fantastic support network of friends and family who are encouraging of my goals and dreams. I am blessed to to be able to stay home with my son, while working part time providing nutrition assessments and am back in school pursuing my dreams of working in the medical field.

Gems for Gems is a great organization that provides a positive forum for women to work together in support of each other. I am looking forward to connecting with all the wonderful women in this organization as well as paying forward all the kindness, generosity and support I was lucky enough to receive when I first moved here.”

“I grew up in the town of Okotoks just south of Calgary. In high school I was always very involved in the community. It made me happy to be a part of the change that I wanted to see. Since graduating I’ve felt as though I’m not doing my part in helping the community move forward.
I graduated in 2014 and have gone to hair school and become a licensed hair stylist at The Vanity Vault in Calgary. I’ve been working there for the past two years.
Working with so many women on a daily basis has helped me understand the struggles that women go through as wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and grandmothers. I enjoy making women look and feel beautiful on the inside & outside.
Joining Gems for Gems means that I can be a part of the community again and help women all over discover their sparkle.”

My sister Nadia was tragically murdered in March 2018 by a man she used to see who refused to let her go.

Ever since, I vowed to help others and keep her spirit alive, so Nadia doesn’t become just another statistic.

Meeting Jordan has been an honour and incredible light to our lives since Nadia passed away.
Gems for Gems is not only helping us tell her story and keep her legacy alive, but they have also committed to their first scholarship being given in her honour.

It has been a difficult journey, but joining Gems for Gems and their hands on approach to creating change, has given hope to my family and I.

Knowing we will help stop the cycle of abuse means the world to us.

I am so looking forward to the future projects and endeavours that will come out of this organization, and can’t wait to be a part of something so positive and wonderful.
